Listening Circles with AAPI Parents–A Community Education Initiative by AACS Mental Health Initiative

The AACS Mental Health Initiative partners with St. Louis area AAPI organizations to host regular Listening Circles, with the goal of facilitating conversations about youth mental health with AAPI parents, creating awareness about mental health needs, and encouraging help seeking behaviors among the community.
What to expect for Partner Organizations:
- Work with the AACS team to host the 90 minute program
- Identify time and location for the meeting
- Recruit AAPI parents and adults in the community to attend the program
- Coordinate with AACS team for logistics, including promotional materials, assessments, etc.
What to expect for Parent Participants:
- Join an open dialogue with trained AAPI mental health professionals about youth mental health
- Become educated about mental health resources.
- Meet and dialogue with AACS Mental Health Youth Advocates members, who are local high school students certified for the Teen MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) program
- Participate in guided, confidential conversations about topics such as family dynamics, bicultural identity, academic pressure, model minority myth, mental health stigma, etc.
